The nail plate
Nail Plates
The nail plate - often called the corneous blade, is the
most obvious part and is bordered on one side by the crescent and on the other
side by the free extremity of the nail. It consists of albuminoid cells
(onychoblasts) that contain neither blood nor nerve cells and come from the
root of the nail. The cells form three overlapping layers whose union is
supported by a substance made of water and fats. But they don't all have the
same consistency:
The first layer is the ventral layer - it is the softest
layer and the painful area of the nail because it is the layer closest to the
nail bed. in the case of excessive filing of the nail plate, if the false
material is applied to the ventral layer, it does not have a secure adhesion
with the false product.
The intermediate layer - is the middle layer of the nail
plate and it ensures an average adhesion.
Dorsal layer – is the hardest layer. This is the safe work
area for a healthy manicure. It allows good adhesion with the fake product.
In total, a healthy nail plate has about 80-120 keratin cell
substrates, its thickness is a genetic or medicinal factor.
